Summer Camp: The Naked Edition // Kierra Josette Artistry
/Last week I had the experience of a lifetime. I attended Camp Do More. 120+ boudoir photographers and educators camped on a stunning lake in Halliburton, Ontario. It's pretty much what you'd expect a Summer camp for boudoir photographers to be: lots of naked. But, oh so good for my soul!!
Spending a week with like minded individuals is simultaneously the best and worst experience. My heart and mind were filled with love and thankfulness. Spending time with people who just "get" you is exhilarating. Being away from reality is refreshing and good for the soul. It's okay, and probably normal, to have a rough transition back into said reality. My body fought it, my mind fought it, and most importantly, my heart fought it. I didn't want to leave. I wasn't ready to face daily life again. Camp was an oasis. It's okay to struggle. It's okay to fear. But, it's important that camp is so much more than an educational workshop. It's an experience that will connect you to life long friends. It gives you a chance to find "your people". And, you'll meet people who actually care about you and care for your well being, even after we're all separated. These people care about you, they want you to succeed, they want you to be happy. SO do it. Love it, live it, learn from it, be happy, be sad, struggle getting back to normal, but do so with grace and the help of your camp friends.
Being able to create art for "me" was important. There were no client expectations, it was outside of my studio, I could get funky and weird and it would all be okay. One of my favorite shoots from camp was this "Summer Camp" themed shoot. Complete with a rustic cabin and bunk beds. Enjoy.
